[NYC Day 0] Leaving Perth
Weird to think that I’m on my way to New York City. Boarding is not for a while, I got through security etc in very little time so I’ve got a moment to chill in the Qantas lounge. The place could use an extra power point or two, but the air con is good and the peach iced tea is drinkable. It’s probably a good thing I’m on my own this trip as there’s no real champagne in the place for L.
I’ll be happier when they finish all the work around Perth airport. The drop off bays are really badly signposted, the roadworks make it way too interesting, and there’s stuff all duty free shopping. A couple of interesting whiskies, but nothing at a price that screams bargain buy. I think they trade off the captive market and jack up the prices.
I also learnt that you can’t take play doh on planes. Not that I’ve ever been tempted, but will file this away in case I ever be tempted. It probably applies to blue tac too.
Great PA announcement, apparently some nicotine junky can’t make it 5 minutes without a fix and has tried lighting up in the toilets. Fortunately the dickhead didn’t set off the whole of terminal smoke alarm or we’d all have to evacuate. People is really fucking dumb sometimes.
Have had some ginger beer and some ginger pills, so my stomach should be right to fly. Head is a little sore, probably from sinuses and hay fever, so I think a coffee is in order — just got a whiff of some from the barista in here.
Next stop is a quick transit in Abu Dhabi. About 2.5 hours, enough for a g’n’t in the lounge. Then I’ll be kissing the ground at JFK. See y’all north of the equator.
